About Sharpestone

Roger Sharpe standing in front of the wall created for his advanced test piece

Roger Sharpe has worked as a dry stone waller for the last nine years. His training began with a weekend dry stone walling course organised by the DSWA (Dry Stone Walling Association). After this he was fortunate to obtain a job working for a professional dry stone waller in the Buxton area, mainly building limestone field walls.

After a year he decided to start his own business; but this didn’t stop him from wanting to improve his skills. He continued to train through courses organised by the DSWA at the Wirksworth Stone Centre. In 2008 he obtained his advanced craftsman certificate and was the only dry stone waller during that year to achieve this accreditation. He is also a level 1 dry stone walling instructor, qualified to train beginners in the craft.

Additionally, he has been involved in DSWA demonstrations at Ashby, Bakewell,  Ashbourne, Chatsworth and other county shows – the most recent being Derby. With this kind of experience it is understandable that he has worked on many dry stone walling projects both large and small.

But his experience doesn’t end there. He also found himself being asked to build mortared walls and other stone features, which he has been doing for the past six years. This, like the dry walling, means he has worked on many mortared projects.

This brief background illustrates that Roger is a committed, conscientious, professional and highly skilled craftsman; he will be very happy to discuss your own walling requirements and offer any advice on design, materials and timescales. After all, if a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well!
